Frying High: Britainís Favouirte Family Chippy 2012 Revealed
Acclaimed family fish and chip shop Alf's Fish & Chips in Weymouth has received a national award from Ben Shaws®, to be named Britain's Favourite Family Chippy 2012.
The annual award, now in its third year, is hosted by the nostalgic soft drinks brand to celebrate all the outstanding family-run chip shops across Britain that truly make a difference in their communities.
Pitched against the industry's top examples, Alf's Fish & Chips, which serves an average of 3,000 meals per week, was firstly shortlisted for its philanthropic attitude having raised money for the children's ward at the local hospital and provided food vouchers to various schools and charities.
The chip shop then went on to beat tough competition from fellow finalists Richardson's Fish Bar in Lancashire and Taylors Fish & Chips in Cheshire during a public vote hosted on the Ben Shaws dedicated Facebook page.
Backed by Fry Monthly and the National Federation of Fish Friers, who were also on the select judging panel, Alf's Fish & Chips topped the poll to receive the coveted 2012 Favourite Family Chippy trophy, a £500 donation to treat their loyal customers* and a night away for the family including dinner at a renowned fish restaurant.
Ally Whitehead, Assistant Brand Manager at Ben Shaws said: "On behalf of everyone at Ben Shaws we would like to share our congratulations with Alf's Fish & Chips, who certainly have a lot to celebrate as the family chippy chosen by their community to win this coveted award!
"Alf's Fish and Chips are very worthy winners of this year's campaign to find Britain's favourite family chippy based on their strong family values and innovative business ideas. Fish and chips are a much-loved part of British heritage and to win this award is a fantastic achievement.Ē
