Nine shops were frying high after being awarded the prestigious ‘Best Chippy Chips’ regional champion title. And extra celebrations were underway for Peter’s Fish Factories, Kent, which topped the league table and wrapped up the prestigious Overall Champion title.
The Ramsgate based shop was awarded the prestigious National Champion title in a competition to celebrate Chip Week 2012, which recognises and rewards the quality chips being served by shops in nine different regions.
Chip fans voted in their thousands in the Choice Chip Awards, with over 400 chip shops across the country involved and 35,000 votes received at www.chips.lovepotatoes.co.uk and through voting cards in shops. Peter’s Fish Factories were named top fryers in the South East region and such was their popularity, they were worthy winners of the ‘National Champion’ title too.
Peter Curtis and all the staff were delighted with the award. Peter, who has been in the trade for 44 years said: "It’s unbelievable, we’re absolutely over the moon and I can’t thank our customers enough for voting for us. You have to love what you do and this is our secret to making great chips. That and my loyal staff, many of whom have been with me for more than 20 year, so it really makes me proud to say we’ve got the best chippy chips in the UK!”
Kate Cox, Chip Week campaign manager for Potato Council, said: "Chip Week is a huge celebration of chips. As a nation we can’t get enough, consuming three billion meals containing chips1. The Choice Chip Awards have been incredibly popular, with customers keen to put their favourite chip shop on the map.
"This has been a great start to Chip Week 2012, which will see celebrations and promotions taking place in hundreds of shops. Added to which, a profile media campaign will encourage the nation to enjoy a portion of chips and drive sales across the sector.”
