UK's biggest pie superfan revealed!

-Telford’s Katie Peal crowned Pukka Pie Superfan after declaring her love for all things pastry

-Announcement follows Pukka’s nationwide ‘seach for a superfan’ competition to celebrate its 55thanniversary

A woman from Shropshire has today been crowned the UK’s ultimate pie fan, following a nationwide competition to celebrate Pukka Pies’s 55thyear anniversary.

Following a social poll on Facebook and Twitter between two superfan finalists, pie obsessed Katie Peal from Telford has been crowned the winner.

The 36 year old Facilities Manager, who also judges at the British Pie Awards, began sampling pies across the country just three years ago, and can now claim to have tried hundreds of pastry treats.

Starting witha Pukka Chicken Balti at a football game in December 2015, Miss Peal has now visited around 50football stadiums to watch her beloved AFC Telford, all in the name of keeping her eyes on the pies. She even has a private collection of personalised pie cutlery to help her munch her way through her favourite food.

"After my first Pukka Pie on a cold December evening, it was the start of a love affair,”commented the Pukka Pie Superfan, Katie Peal.

"I’ve spent the last three years eating my way through all sorts of pies and pastries at non-league football grounds in the north of the country, but it’s true what they say – a girl never forgets her first! I’m thrilled to be crowned a winner in the Pukka Pies Superfan competition and at last, I feel like my love is now no longer unrequited.”

The Away Day Pie Girl blogger caught the eye of the judges with her unique entry, where she submitted a picture of her very first football match pie (a Pukka Pie). She explained that Pukka inspired her love of eating pies at football matches – which then inspired her to start her blog.

Determined to prove her love for pie even further, she coupled the post with a picture of her personalised ‘Away Day Pie Girl’ pie fork, her pie-themed ring and an image of her sporting a classic Pukka Pies apron.

After making it to the final two last week, it was left to the public to decide Katie’s fate – and following a week-long social poll, she won by a landslide with twice as many votes as the runner-up, across the brand’s Twitter and Facebook pages.

Pukka Pies will be treating the lucky Miss Peal to a year’s supply of Pukka Pies[1]and a true pie superfan experience: an exclusive tour of the renowned Pukka bakery, a tasting of the newest products in the Pukka range and a pie-making masterclass where she can cook up her dream recipe.

Lindsay Filmer, Head of Marketing at Pukka Pies says:"Katie submitted a stand-out entry which oozed personality, and she really proved to us how dedicated she is to Pukka Pies during our 55thyear. Keeping her eyes on the pies paid off and we’re delighted to name her our winner!”
