Article Date: 2017-11-21

Miller’s Fish and Chips is partnering with the York City Knights Foundation and York St John University for a Fish and Chip Friday event on the 24thNovember at York St John University.

The event has been organised to help people who may be feeling lonely, isolated or who may benefit from additional opportunities to socialise, providing an opportunity for people to come together and meet new people whilst enjoying the nation’s favourite dish.

David Miller, of Miller’s Fish & Chips, said: "We want this event to bring people together and celebrate the fantastic community spirit at the heart of Haxby and York. Whether you’re feeling lonely at this time of year or just need someone to talk to, we’re ready to welcome people with open arms as they come together and share some delicious fish and chips from the Miller’s team.

"Food brings people together on so many different levels and sharing food is a universal language for connecting with each other. We’d like to thank York City Nights Foundation and York St John University for letting us be a part of such a fantastic event and creating an opportunity forpeople to get together in a friendly, social environment. We’re proud to create new friendships over the nation’s favourite dish.”

Neil Gulliver, Foundation Manager, said: "This is a great opportunity for people to meet up with people and have some excellent food provided by Miller’s at an exceptional venue in York St John University Sports Park. These people might be carers, suffering from dementia, or just want another opportunity to get out and meet people. I am really pleased that both York St John University and Miller’s could see what we are trying to achieve with this very special event and their support in making it happen has been fantastic.”

Lucie Crowley, Facility and Service Coordinator from York St John University, said: "This event is a fantastic way to integrate and connect individuals that may be isolated or lonely in the friendly atmosphere which we intend to create. Not just on Fish and Chip Friday but at any time – we want York St John University Sports Park to be a place that people feel they can come to see a friendly face and have a chat.”
