10 Best Fish & Chip Restaurants revel in success

The best places to enjoy eat-in fish and chips have been revealed as Fry Magazine announces its 10 Best Fish & Chip Restaurants 2017.
The competition, which is in its second year, saw mystery diners visit every shop that entered to assess a range of front-of-house aspects from staff friendliness, cleanliness of the outlet to product knowledge. Points were also awarded for the quality of the food with everything being critiqued from the crispness of the batter, to the size and fluffiness of the inside of chips, to the flakiness and texture of the fish.
Restaurants picked up additional points for details such as clean and tidy uniforms, the attentiveness of staff during the meal, how well the transaction was handled, and overall value for money. The benchmark was set extremely high with all ten restaurants scoring 93% or over in their mystery dine.

Both Bizzie Lizzie’s and Colmans of South Shields retained their spot in the top ten for a second year in a row.
Commenting on the results, competition organiser Reece Head, says: "It’s a tough set of judging criteria our mystery diners are set, with over 40 different aspects of each business under scrutiny. What’s more, the restaurants have no idea when our judges are coming so have to be at their best all the time.
"These outlets have proven they run a superb operation day in, day out from serving excellent fish and chips, to ensuring a clean, welcoming restaurant, to training all staff in delivering first rate customer service. They all thoroughly deserve their place in our 10 Best Fish & Chip Restaurants.”
