Tetbury fish and chip restaurant celebrates sustainability certification
Fish and chip fans in Tetbury in the Cotswolds, Gloucestershire can enjoy their favourite fast food knowing it is sourced sustainably, following the successful Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification of leading new takeaway restaurant, Stargazy Fish Bar.
The news means the restaurant can now use the MSC ‘blue tick’ label on its cod and haddock, assuring customers that the fish on their menu has been responsibly caught using sustainable methods.
Recently named one of the top three newcomers in the National Fish and Chip Awards 2017, Stargazy is the first fish and chip shop for Tanya Kelly and her family who also own the adjoining hotel-restaurant, The Priory Inn. They are delighted to have recently been awarded both MSC certification and also the National Federation of Fish Friers Quality Award.
Tanya and the team pride themselves on using top, local ingredients, often making their own products such as batter, fish cakes, onion rings, curry sauce and minted mushy peas.
Owner, Tanya Kelly, explains what the news means, "It is very much part of our ethos as restaurant owners to be as environmentally sound as possible. We therefore fully support the efforts of the MSC to ensure that fisheries are working sustainably to help protect the future of our oceans. We are very proud of our certification!”
