Seafare on Worplesdon Road in Guildford, which has raised £80,000 for local charities, has been announced as the winner of the local community award at the National Fish and Chip Shop of the Year Competition organised by Seafish.
The shop has been a pillar of the local community for the past 26 years and manager Andy Cooper and his staff are always looking for new ways to support their loyal customers.
Every year the shop holds a Super Sunday charity day, where fish and chips are half price and staff dress up and work for free. All takings from the day, along with customer donations, go to the St Luke’s Cancer Appeal at the Royal Surrey County Hospital.
Andy Cooper has also done his part for the community. Last year he completed a trek in Nepal and cycled from Brighton to London for Macmillan Nurses and The St Luke’s Cancer Appeal.
Now in its 19th year, the National Fish and Chip Shop of the Year Competition rewards excellence in the fish and chip world.
Andy Gray of Seafish said: “Fish and chip shops are often regarded as a big part of the local community. Andy has shown real commitment to helping the local area and in turn has encouraged his staff to do the same. The team has worked hard to support customers, using innovative and fun ideas to make a difference.”
