TOP UK FISH & CHIP SHOPS TAKE PART IN STUDY TRIP

The National Fish & Chip Awards 2015 finalists of the Independent Takeaway Fish and Chip Shop of the Year Award are scheduled to take part in an educational trip to Norway next month (24-26 November).

 

Going on the trip, courtesy of the Norwegian Seafood Council, are Independent Takeaway Fish and Chip Shop of the Year finalists:

 

Frankie’s Fish & Chips in Brae, Shetland (Scotland) Penaluna’s Famous Fish & Chips in Aberdare, Rhondda Cynon Taf (Wales) FishCity in Ballynahinch, County Down (Northern Ireland) Mister C^s in Selby, North Yorkshire (North East England) Papa^s Fish & Chips in Warrington, Cheshire (North West England) Simpsons Fish & Chips in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire (Midlands) Burton Road Chippy in Lincoln, Lincolnshire (Eastern England) Papa’s Barn in Ditton, Kent (London & South East England) Broughton Award Winning Fish & Chips in Broughton, Milton Keynes (Central & Southern England) Harbourside Fish & Chips in Plymouth, Devon (South West England)

Representatives from the ten regional winners will visit the port city of Ålesund on the Norwegian west coast to discover and learn all about the supply chain of Frozen At Sea (FAS) fish from Norway to the UK.

They will have the chance to witness the whole fishing process; from catch to processing and filleting, and have an opportunity to learn about the science behind Norway’s successful fishery management policies and practices.

 

Paul Williams, Chief Executive of Seafish, said: "We are so pleased that after undergoing a tough judging process we can offer the finalists a chance to attend this educational trip to one of the world’s most sustainable fisheries.

 

"The UK and many of the markets it imports from have taken huge strides in recent years in managing fish stocks, ensuring that customers across the UK can continue to eat fish from sustainable sources.

 

"It is so important for not only finalists, but all businesses and individuals in our industry to learn about where our fish comes from.

 

"I hope this trip is a huge success and finalists return better informed about the sustainable seafood sourcing methods that are helping ensure that we can enjoy a good portion of fish and chips for years to come.”
